"Centenary Echoes"
Chronicle of Calçada da Vitória No. 55

Standing at No. 55 Calçada da Vitória for a century, bearing to witness the ups and downs of the city, and playing various roles in the relentless flow of time. In celebration of her centenary, Macau Diocesan of Performance Arts and Culture Association is launching “Centenary Echoes: Chronicle of Calçada da Vitória No. 55”.

Spanning a century of change, the exhibition charts the building’s journey from Sino-Western merchant mansion to “Kam Yuen Building”, and to Cardinal Newman Centre for Culture and Arts Performance of Macau —an arts oasis that bears the enduring imprint of Macau’s educational and cultural heritage. Oral testimonials from priests, teachers, and alumni bring the building’s legendary humanistic spirit to life. The exhibition invites visitors to step into the building’s rich, legendary humanity. Being recognized as a “Buildings of Architectural Interest” in 2021, the East-meets-West architectural synthesis makes it a vital lens for understanding the decorative aesthetics of modern merchant mansions.
